Résumé | The World Health Assembly (WHA) Resolution 60.29 on Health Technologies recognizes that medical devices are indispensable tools in health care delivery for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. It acknowledges that medical devices are essential to attain the internationally agreed health-related development goals, including those contained in the Millenium Declaration. It is widely accepted that the availability of, and access to appropriate and affordable health technologies in low- and middle-income countries are still insufficient. The call for innovative technologies that took place from September 2009 to June 2010 sought to identify and evaluate innovative medical devices (including assistive devices) either existing or under development, which address global health concerns. A total of 84 submissions from 28 countries were received by the deadline of 31 January 2010. |
